People communicate weird, especially when debating

Ever notice that some people seem to communicate on a different frequency compared to the people around them? Or is it just me?

I say on 'different frequencies because that's the best way I can think to describe it. I've watched people have arguments where they are both essentially arguing the same point, but just don't understand that they agree with each other. Sometimes I see where one person knows what the other is saying and answers a question, but the other person doesn't understand the question has been answered.

On the other hand, I've been the one on a different frequency before too. At university, for example, I once watched a professor and a student was a discussion about the topics of a course. They were using words and terms I knew well and understood. But for the life of me, I could not ascertain what they were actually saying.

I know specific people whom I avoid debating ideas with because of this. We just immediately slip onto different frequencies of communication whenever we argue.

It's an odd thing I notice when it happens. I wonder if other people see this too...
